The Four Seasons Art Experience Biogrpahies

Marisa Breyer

Caroline Don
Born in England, Caroline has traveled widely, living among indigenous people of various cultures.  She started sculpting 15 years ago and developed a passion for working with clay. She was very excited to discover Raku, a Japanese firing technique, and has been using it exclusively with her ceramics sculptures and hand built vessels. Her main focus is the human figure and her pieces attempt to convey a message of feeling that speaks of the human struggle for meaning. Her art is about exploring the self-questioning apparent reality and celebrating freedom of expression. Presently, Caroline has returned to Asia to pursue deeper studies under the guidance of a Thai master. She has received awards for her work and has collectors throughout North America. She will be represented by Naimeh Tanha, Executive Director of Studio Vivace.

Midge Hyde
Her education includes a fine art/liberal arts degree from San Diego State University, studies in Hamburg, Germany and London, England. She has art work and commissions in private collections here in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Hamburg, Germany and Kuwait. Midge is ever evolving with her art experimenting with her love of color and discovering what the new idea might bring and finding more than meets the eye.

Tatiana Kolesnikova
Tatiana has spent almost her entire life learning about, and creating, fine art. Her schooling includes The Art School of Yekaterinburg, Russia, College of Fine Art in Yekaterinburg, Russia, and three years of studying History of Art in the Russian Art Academy. Her paintings are held in various private collections in Russia, Italy, Germany, Denmark and the USA, and have been exhibited internationally in numerous shows winning many awards. From 2000 through 2002 Tatiana was a successful art teacher at the Ural Private School for Gifted Children.

Loraine Lewis
Loraine's talent comes naturally. Rebelling against art teacher after art teacher, who recognized her talents, she decided to major in communication in college, with a minor in journalism. However, her camera was always at her side, and she continued to develop her photography from the basics she was taught as a young girl. With the advance of the digital age she took her photography down a new path, creating images that always have a twist to them. Living in Cardiff by the Sea, California, Loraine's work is shown at the 101 Artist's Gallery in Encinitas. Her work hangs in many homes through out San Diego County, and homes as far away as New York. Loraine has also been commissioned for a book cover, and special pieces of work for a celebrated spiritual leader.

Zack Lobisch

Joan Mathison
She was born in the midwest, but grew up on the Pacific coast of California. The big skies and vast spaces with expansive vistas developed her sensibilities for nature. The experience of feeling oneness with the elements of Nature is what she strives to depict with expressive color and brushwork. Her paintings go beyond the pictorial and into the experiential. She wishes to seek the truth, the truth in materials, the truth in observation, and the truth in feeling. Building on past aquired skills with never-ending experimentation she is constantly expanding her knowledge of paint and color in the hopes of expressing a deeper and fuller the connection between Nature and humanity. Joan received a BFA from the University of California, San Diego and a BFA from the Design Institute of San Diego in Interior Design.

Nic Mcguire

Marley Musella

Jessica Newman
Jessica attended the Rhode Island School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology, in New York City, where she graduated with a BFA in interior design. Almost immediately upon graduation she resumed her fine art studies. She began to study in the studios of artists whose work she admired.  Jessica stays involved in the design community through her freelance architectural renderings, and teaching interior design courses at the Art Institute of California, San Diego.

Shira Oretzky
Her fascination toward photography developed ten years ago, sparked by traveling to places off the beaten path and the desire to capture places and people that touched her. Shira is constantly inspired by diverse expressions, colors, and natural forms. Photography expresses the unique stories of her experiences.

Barclay Osborn
Barclay Osborn is a photographer trained through experience. He learned the analytics and aesthetics of light, composition, and color from wandering the exhibitions of the Phoenix Art Museum as a child, under the tutelage of volunteer docents. He purchased his first professional grade equipment in 1995 and continued his education by engaging the world through the lens. His pieces reflect the internal conflicts of the self and of intrapersonal relationships, reflected and convoluted by the inanimate, of finding beauty in chaos

Chris Penler

Ginger Placek
Ginger Placek, or Ginga as her friends and the art and fashion communities know her, was raised in San Diego, CA without any formal exposure to the art world and its conventions, yet in recent years, her reputation has risen to a considerable degree of prestige both locally and nationally in the entertainment circles for her fashion pieces, canvases, art and music events, and other objets d'art. As a direct recipient of the graffiti art lineage that gained notoriety and canonization in the 1980s, she has taken an organic approach with its evolved cachet and melded it with a contemporary metropolitan aesthetic that effortlessly dodges the obvious and ubiquitous styles in the various communities she is involved in today.

Shane Rhoads

Ernest Salazar
Ernest Salazar is an amateur artist in every sense of the word. Although trained in art, his inspiration comes from the conflict between his eyes and his hand, and the abstractions that come from it are often fascinating to look at. His best work is often never shown to anyone but his closest friends. He has decided to keep his day job. This guy is not really a painter. He is a doodler. His inspiration comes from his etch-a-sketch. Several years ago, he was bitten by a monkey, and ever since he drools a bit if you talk too much to him. Also, it is not a good idea to look him directly in the eye. Usually his pants do not match his shirt, if he is wearing pants. His addition to this show was part of a court–ordered settlement. He also boasts the largest collection of swizzle sticks and edible underwear in southern California.

Mark A. Sampson

Danielle Siembieda
Danielle was born with a paintbrush in hand. As a child growing up in Albuquerque, New Mexico her main outlet was art. Her family realized her passion at an early age by giving her an art studio and a mentor to teach her beginning skills. She has always been an entrepreneur, trying to make her art a business selling found object creations and illustrations at local fairs and events. Her passions as a child also lead her into activism. She spent most of her secondary education working on environmental issues. She developed her sense of social justice even further in her college career as a human rights activist. During this time she continued to paint. She received a certificate in New Media and a BA from the University of Missouri-Columbia. During this time she did quite a bit of traveling, including voyages to Israel, South East Asia, Japan, Australia, Central America, and all over North America. These experiences opened her eyes to the diversity of cultures globally. With this set foundation as a media-savvy compassionate being, she started a career in community development, all the while attempting to be an artist.

Macoe Swett

After graduating, she relocated to San Francisco where she worked for Gensler, a large architecture/interior design firm. She moved back east to Philadelphia, where she worked as a graphic designer for various firms including Philadelphia City Paper. She was chosen by AIGA, Philadelphia chapter, to design a poster for their Poetry in Motion series, which appeared in Philadelphia subways. She moved to San Diego in 2000, and in 2003, started her own business called Urban Legend Design, whose clients include Onyx Room, San Diego Baykeeper, Aubergine, Moddom, Villa Moda and 212 Interactive. She received an award from Graphic Design USA for work done for San Diego Baykeeper, which appeared in their December 2005 issue. Macoe began teaching at the Art Institute of California, San Diego in January of 2004. She is a full-time instructor whose classes include digital illustration, typography, and grid systems.  Her art inspired the flier for the Four Seasons show.

Matthew Walker
Born and raised in Chicago, Matthew observed and soaked it all in.

Jonathan Williams
Born in San Francisco and raised in Germany, Jonathan Williams was first exposed to fine art while living in Germany. He is largely self-educated in art, and has visited various art museums around the world. He paints primarily with oils and does mainly landscapes, but also has a repertoire of portraits and still-life. He has exhibited in San Francisco, Chicago, and Wisconsin. Most of his self-portraits are painted after he came out in 1999, and a few of them reflect his sexual self-awareness. He paints beyond the common reason, “I love it.” It is what he does best and it is has been one of his first interests, allowing him to emerge beyond that midpoint of mediocrity.

Bill Wiscott

Michael Young

Elizabeth Zaikowski
She received her degree at San Diego State University in art education, working in various media, including illustration, ceramics, textiles, furniture, murals, sculpture, acrylic and oil painting. She has worked as an artist painting for the public at Sea World for seven years hand-painting letter brush paintings on silk. Elizabeth has been active as an arts educator and has taught children art at the San Diego Children’s Museum as a resident artist, teaching workshops in art for painting, clay and many other forms of artistic expression, and giving tours to schools groups around the museum. Her paintings are influenced by the mandalas of many cultures and the symmetrical natures of our universe. Devoting her life to art because she believes art enriches our lives and spirits and through her art, Elizabeth strives to create more balance in our chaotic world.
