"Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp" Art Event Biographies
Stacy D'Aguiar
David Gallegos
In an attempt to unite the aspects of speculation, emotional experience
and perception David Gallegos creates visions of ambiguity with subtle
narrative threads. Although his images are often wrought with bright
colors and energy there is also a strong sense of loneliness, sorrow,
sensuality and lust. In this he simultaneously illustrates the
illustriousness of life and its stark counterpart. Although still a
student of fine art David has already broken ground as a showing
artist.
Since 2004 he has been involved in several group shows exhibiting
photography, illustrations and paintings in a variety of medium.
Midge Hyde
Her education includes a fine art/liberal arts degree from San Diego State University, studies in Hamburg, Germany and London, England. She has art work and commissions in private collections here in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Hamburg, Germany and Kuwait. Midge is ever evolving with her art experimenting with her love of color and discovering what the new idea might bring and finding more than meets the eye.
Loraine Lewis
Loraine's talent comes naturally. Rebelling against art teacher after art teacher, who recognized her talents, she decided to major in communication in college, with a minor in journalism. However, her camera was always at her side, and she continued to develop her photography from the basics she was taught as a young girl. With the advance of the digital age she took her photography down a new path, creating images that always have a twist to them. Living in Cardiff by the Sea, California, Loraine's work is shown at the 101 Artist's Gallery in Encinitas. Her work hangs in many homes through out San Diego County, and homes as far away as New York. Loraine has also been commissioned for a book cover, and special pieces of work for a celebrated spiritual leader.
Ginger Placek
Ginger Placek, or Ginga as her friends and the art and fashion communities know her, was raised in San Diego, CA without any formal exposure to the art world and its conventions, yet in recent years, her reputation has risen to a considerable degree of prestige both locally and nationally in the entertainment circles for her fashion pieces, canvases, art and music events, and other objets d'art. As a direct recipient of the graffiti art lineage that gained notoriety and canonization in the 1980s, she has taken an organic approach with its evolved cachet and melded it with a contemporary metropolitan aesthetic that effortlessly dodges the obvious and ubiquitous styles in the various communities she is involved in today.
